Chronic Absenteesim Best Practices Brief
CEHD’s EdPolicyForward faculty, Dr. Seth Hunter and PhD student Alyssa Barone, published a brief on chronic absenteeism and best practices to increase student attendance. This brief included insights from representatives from the following Virginia school divisions who participated in a panel on the topic at the ERA-NOVA meeting in January 2024: Fairfax County Public Schools, Falls Church City Schools, Frederick County Public Schools, and Stafford County Public Schools.

This panel, part of ERA-NOVA’s Elephant in the Room sessions dedicated to insights and discussions surrounding school divisions’ biggest challenges, was moderated CEHD faculty member Anne Holton, and contained lively insights and discussion from a number school division partners, including Fairfax County Public Schools, Falls Church City Schools, Frederick County Public Schools, Stafford County Public Schools, as well as CEHD PhD student Alyssa Barone.

Data Update: Teacher Preparation Program Trends
The American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) regularly summarizes the latest federal data on educator preparation programs for its members. This February 2024 issues brief updates information presented in previous AACTE publications.

Teaching Recovery?
This piece, from the Center on Reinventing Public Education (CRPE), examines how three years in, the pandemic has impacted and weakened instruction. The report highlights that while school systems are "emerging from the pandemic and subsequent health and operational crises," that leaders have reported that their recovery efforts have been "nearly impossible" to execute due mainly to challenges in staffing and training.
